 According to Statistics gathered online from North Carolina based EDIS (Economic Development Intelligence System) in a 2008 report. - Maui's Total population in 2008 was 147,939, up from 129,094 in 2000. The growth rate was 1.8% in 2008.
- By 2013 the estimated total population on Maui will reach 160,388 with a growth rate of 1.6%.
- Where the population was in 2000: Urban Clusters - 87.6% or 112,204 people, Non-Farm - 11.6% or 14,700 people and on farms 0.9% or 1,091 people.
- The ages of the people living on Maui in 2008 was: 0-19 = 26.1% or 38,677 people, 20-29 = 13.1% or 19,344 people, 30-39 = 13% or 19,243 people, 40-49 = 15.2% or 22,525 people, 50-59 = 15.2% or 22,559 people, 60+ = 17.3% or 25,601 people.
- In 2000 the number of people in the workforce was at 61,262
- In March of 2009, Maui's unemployment rate hit 7.3%, just under the national average of 8.1%. (see mauitoday.tv).
- In 2000 43,534 people traveled alone in their vehicles to work outside the home. Only 10,545 carpooled, but 1,739 walked.
